Avis named executive director of the Transportation Authority of Calhoun County
BATTLE CREEK, MI: The Transportation Authority of Calhoun County (TACC) has appointed Mallory R. Avis as its new executive director. Avis, who had been serving as the interim executive director, brings nearly two decades of experience in public transportation, finance and organizational leadership to the role.
“Mallory’s vision and commitment to accessible, innovative transit make her the right leader to launch Ride Calhoun and guide TACC into its next chapter,” said Erick Stewart, chair of the TACC board. “Her experience and deep understanding of our community’s needs will be instrumental as we bring this new service to life and continue improving transportation options across Calhoun County.”
Avis has served as the public transit director for the city of Battle Creek since 2019 where she led the planning, management and development of multimodal transportation services. Her leadership included oversight of a $4.5 million system budget, fostering community partnerships and implementing long-term capital improvement plans to expand and enhance local transit.
Throughout her career Avis has been actively involved in shaping public transportation at the state and national levels. She has served on the Michigan Public Transit Association board of directors and contributed to several Transportation Research Board projects focused on improving accessibility, equity and service delivery in transit systems across the country.
Avis holds a Master of Business Administration from Baker College Center for Graduate Studies as well as bachelor’s and associate degrees in business administration. She has also completed professional development programs in public transportation and ethics through the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, the National Transit Institute and the National Highway Institute.
“I am honored to join the Transportation Authority of Calhoun County at such a pivotal time,” Avis said. “As Ride Calhoun takes shape, my focus will be on continuing to listen to our residents, working closely with the board and our team, and building strong community partnerships to ensure that the transportation services we bring forward truly meet the needs and priorities of Calhoun County.”
