BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The Transportation Authority of Calhoun County (TACC), or Ride Calhoun, has implemented the next phase of transit service improvements, adding 125 additional service hours per week to better meet community needs across Calhoun County.
The service changes, now in effect, reflect months of rider feedback and public engagement focused on expanded hours, improved reliability, and increased capacity.
“Riders told us clearly what they needed – more flexibility, more dependable service, and greater access,” said Kristy Grestini, Director of Administration and Planning. “These improvements are a direct response to that feedback and an important step forward in our long-term service plan.”
As part of this phase, Ride Calhoun has restored the RC Max fixed-route mid-day service hour from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. RC Max now operates 5:15 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on weekdays, allowing for uninterrupted mid-day travel.
Ride Calhoun has also increased capacity for RC Flex, its on-demand service, by adding two additional vehicles operating from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
“Every added vehicle and service hour improves availability and reduces wait times for our passengers, said Brendan Pizzala, Director of Operations. “These changes immediately strengthen service reliability while allowing us to expand in a sustainable way.”
Additional phases of service expansion are already in planning, including extending fixed-route service later into the day to support workers, students, and residents with evening travel needs.
“This work is intentionally phased and community-driven,” said Mallory Avis, Executive Director. “We are listening, responding, and continuing to build service in a way that reflects what matters most to the people we serve.”
