Consumers Energy brings electric vehicle and charging station to Ride Calhoun
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Transportation Authority of Calhoun County (TACC), also known as Ride Calhoun, will unveil the first electric vehicle in its RC FLEX fleet during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 17, 2026. The new electric vehicle and accompanying charging station were provided by Consumers Energy, marking a new step in Ride Calhoun’s efforts to provide reliable, efficient transportation throughout TACC’s service area.
“We are incredibly grateful to Consumers Energy for their generosity and partnership in supporting the continued growth of our RC FLEX fleet. This electric vehicle and charging station represent an important step in our commitment to building a more sustainable transit system while continuing to provide reliable, accessible transportation for Calhoun County residents in participating communities,” said Mallory Avis, executive director, TACC.
The new vehicle is a 2025 Ford E-Transit equipped with a wheelchair lift, supporting Ride
Calhoun’s commitment to accessible transportation. As part of the RC FLEX fleet, Ride Calhoun’s on-demand transportation service, the electric van will help connect residents to the places they need to go while introducing electric vehicle technology into the fleet.
“We’re excited to see this van hit the road, keep people on the move, and spark conversations about the benefits of electric vehicles,” said Greg Moore, Consumers Energy’s community affairs manager. “Consumers Energy is committed to investing in the people and communities Ride Calhoun serves every day. We’re helping to reduce fuel and maintenance costs, allowing more resources to be focused on their mission of connecting people through reliable, accessible and affordable transportation.”
The addition of an energy-efficient vehicle reflects Ride Calhoun’s continued commitment to improving the lives of residents through affordable, reliable transportation. As the first electric vehicle in the RC FLEX fleet, the addition also provides an opportunity to explore more energy-efficient ways to keep the community moving.
