ST. JOHNS, MI: Clinton Transit is reaffirming its long-standing commitment to Clinton County residents through partnerships that prioritize local connection, fiscal responsibility, and community well-being. As the county’s public transportation system for more than 20 years, Clinton Transit continues to ensure that every tax dollar serves the people who live, work, and grow here in Clinton County.
“Every decision we make starts with our community,” said MaLissa Schutt, Executive Director of Clinton Transit. “Our mission has always been to provide safe, affordable, and accessible transportation while being good stewards of the public funds entrusted to us. Clinton Transit belongs to the people of Clinton County — and we’re proud to continue linking our residents with the resources and opportunities that strengthen our community.”
Connecting People to What Matters Most
Clinton Transit’s focus on community collaboration continues to shine through partnerships that make a tangible difference in residents’ daily lives. Most recently, the agency joined CATA and EATRAN in supporting residents affected by SNAP benefit interruptions, offering free rides to Greater Lansing Food Bank pantry locations. Clinton Transit’s role ensures that Clinton County residents have equal and reliable access to essential food resources close to home.
Beyond essential services, Clinton Transit also supports civic engagement by offering free transportation to polling places for all elections — including the upcoming national election — ensuring that every resident has the opportunity to make their voice heard.
Local Programs That Inspire Learning and Joy
Clinton Transit’s community commitment goes beyond transportation — it’s about connection and enrichment. Through initiatives like the Books on the Blue Bus program, riders of all ages can enjoy free access to children’s books on board. One local passenger recently shared her family’s experience:
“My 4-year-old and I took the Clinton County Transit shuttle to the DeWitt Ox Roast, and he was thrilled to find a bin of books on the bus. Despite all the fun activities that day, riding the bus and discovering those books was the highlight. It reminded me that we’re part of a community that truly cares about families and learning.”
Built by Clinton County, for Clinton County
While regional agencies like CATA play a role in connecting neighboring areas, Clinton Transit remains uniquely focused on the needs of Clinton County’s residents, communities, and taxpayers. The system’s locally driven model keeps decision-making close to home and ensures that investments stay within the county — supporting local jobs, businesses, and services.
“Our strength comes from our partnership with the people of Clinton County,” Schutt added. “We’re not just providing transportation — we’re connecting our neighbors to one another, and that’s something worth protecting and celebrating.”
